May I recommend (again to some of you) the incredible 3-part demo video from http://www.virtualgouacheland.blogspot.com/ - I learned something deep about manipulating paint just by watching him shove it around. Something about... how *much* you can manipulate the paint on the page - shove it around, rewet it, blend part of it down, pick it up with a dry brush...
