AMATERS Amater parasites are passed to humans via contact with infected bookworms or silverfish. In some bodies, Amaters attach to the vocal cords, in some bodies they nest in the eyes. In each case, the parasites feed on language and images. When two bodies are infected with Amaters, a meeting of their songs (in case of a vocal infection) or glances (in optical infections) on the wind causes spontaneous conception. If an infected person reads a text aloud, the content of the text materializes.
Scientists have attributed the existence of ghosts and phantoms to these results of infection by Amater parasites. The ghosts usually dissipate within a year if not fed or sung to. No known cure or prophylaxis exists.
SCRIBA The Scriba is responsible for writing graphs upon the surfaces created by the Lapidary. This organ is typically dormant, becoming activated by heightened somatic stress levels to record significant physical or emotional events. Many sixteenth-century doctors recorded cases of patients suffering from obsession, wherein the patients’ Scribas produced color portraits and photographs of the objects of their adoration.
